ESTABLISHMENT
The economic importance of the intimate apparel sector
of Hong Kong's clothing industry has gained a significant
pace over the past decades. There has been a need for
a body corporate representative of the industry to foster
closer communication among industry players and with
government bodies, and to sustain their interests in
ensuring sustainable development and prosperity. To
fulfill this meaningful aspiration, the Hong Kong Intimate
Apparel Industries' Association Ltd. (HKIAIA) was formally
established and incorporated on 1 December 2003.
HKIAIA currently has over 100 members, comprising manufacturers,
exporters, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and
sourcing agents of finished undergarments, swimwear,
lingerie, sleepwear and the raw materials used in their
manufacture.
The founding members of HKIAIA have a common aspiration
and commitment towards safeguarding and promoting the
interests of the intimate apparel industries. HKIAIA
aims to work in close collaboration with relevant government
bodies, trade associations and industry support organizations
and contribute towards the economic well being of Hong
Kong as a whole.
OBJECTIVES OF HKIAIA

To promote learning, research, education and
training in the intimate apparel and related industries. |
| (2) |
To enhance communication, interaction and cooperation
among members and to establish liaison with and
convey collective views to government bodies,
trade or industrial organizations in Hong Kong
and overseas. |

To develop, foster and promote the best practices
in the industries. |
To achieve these objectives, five dedicated
sub-committees have been set up to look after specific
areas of activities:

MEMBERSHIP CLASS
HKIAIA has three classes of membership:

Association Members |

Association Members are further divided into three
categories : |

Category A |
| |
|
| |
The membership of Category
A is for such sole proprietorship, partnership,
corporation, or any other body corporate or unincorporate,
registered under the Business Registration Ordinance
of Hong Kong and whose core business is in the
manufacturing of finished undergarments, swimwear,
lingerie and/or sleepwear for ultimate sale to
consumers. |

Category B |

The membership of Category
B is for such sole proprietorship, partnership,
corporation, or any other body corporate or unincorporate,
registered under the Business Registration Ordinance
of Hong Kong and whose core business is in the
manufacturing and supply of raw materials for
use in undergarments, swimwear, lingerie and/or
sleepwear. |

Category C |

The membership of Category
C is for such sole proprietorship, partnership,
corporation, or any other body corporate or unincorporate,
registered under the Business Registration Ordinance
of Hong Kong and whose core business is in the
buying for resale or distribution of finished
undergarments, swimwear, lingerie and/or sleepwear. |

Association Members have voting rights. |

Individual Members |
| |

Any individual with an interest
in the work, or sharing the same objectives, of
the Association may apply to become an Individual
Member of the Association. Individual Members
have no voting rights. |

Honorary Members |
| |
|
| |
This category of member is
by invitation only, e.g. former chairman or chairmen
of the Association may be invited to become honorary
chairman or honorary co-chairman of the Association;
suitable person(s) / company may be invited to
become honorary adviser, honorary legal adviser
or honorary auditor of the Association etc. Honorary
Members have no voting rights. |

Affiliate Members |

Any sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or any other body corporate or unincorporate, registered under the Business Registration Ordinance (Cap. 310) with an interest in the work, or sharing the same objects, of the Association but that does not meet the admission requirements of Association Members may apply to become an Affiliate Member of the Association. Affiliate Members have no voting rights. |

Overseas Members |

Any overseas sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or any other body corporate or unincorporate, not registered under the Business Registration Ordinance (Cap. 310), whose core business is the manufacturing or the buying for sale of undergarments, swimwear, lingerie, sleepwear and related fabrics, trims and accessories, or who has an interest in the work, or sharing the same objects, of the Association (for example, computer system suppliers, computer software suppliers, training institutes, etc.), may apply to become an Overseas Member of the Association. Overseas Members have no voting rights. |
