MR
ANDREW SIA,
HONORARY CHAIRMAN, HKIAIA
 |
It was in December 2003 when a group of industry leaders met and decided to incorporate the Hong Kong Intimate Apparel Industries・ Association as a body corporate representative of the industry to foster the sustainable development and prosperity of the global intimate apparel business. Since then the industry has never looked back.
The past six years has been an eventful period for the intimate apparel industries and the Association, both in the global business and .domestic・ manufacturing arenas.

MR
KENNETH WONG,
CHAIRMAN, HKIAIA

|
I am both honored and delighted to be elected as the new Chairman of HKIAIA for its third term. Partnering with me are 15 other well-established industry players whom are determined to promote and to serve the industry.
I like to thank all of our members whom have given your support to the industry throughout the years. I especially want to give my vote of appreciation and thank to our Chairman, Mr. Andrew Sia and our executive committee for giving their unconditional energy in supporting The Association.

Notwithstanding the impact of the extended quantitative restrictions imposed on exports of intimate apparels from China by the United States and European Union following the elimination of textile quotas on 1 January 2005 under the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing; the promulgation of the new labour laws in China, and the 2008 financial tsunami, our industries have fared extremely well relative to other industry sectors and proven their resilience.
At the same time, the Association・s membership has extended from what has been a purely Hong Kong-company organization to overseas companies and bodies, and has firmly established its prominence and recognition in the textiles and apparel sector.
As I make way for the incoming Chairman, Kenneth Wong, after having served the maximum two 3-year terms stipulated in the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Hong Kong Intimate Apparel Industries・ Association, I would like to record my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to my fellow executive committee members and all member companies of the Association for their unfailing support to the Association activities in pursuit of the Association・s objectives
- To promote learning, research, education and training in the intimate apparel and related industries
- To enhance communication, interaction and co-operation among members and to establish liaison with and convey collective views to government bodies, trade and industrial organizations in Hong Kong and overseas, and
- To develop, foster and promote the best practices in the industries
With the Association moving into its 7th year of its incorporation, I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome the incoming executive committee members whose term commenced on 1st December 2009. I have no doubt that under the able leadership of Kenneth, the 16 executive committee members would continue to work for the sustainable development of the industries by forming alliances with the other associations and trading partners, and expanding the territorial coverage into China, our primary production base, and carry the Association to a new horizon.

The global marketplace has become evermore challenging as it is trying to satisfy the demanding consumers whom are greatly affected by the series of events in the past decade. Events such as terrorist・s attack, war, new virus and diseases, great financial crisis and global recession have certainly influenced and re-established consumer purchasing behavior.
To overcome the turbulent times ahead, the Association will continue to strengthen the unity in our industry and to develop the necessary resources for our members to cope with the new challenging market.
Finally, on behalf of the Association, let me take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
KENNETH WONG, Chairman |
